Samuel Herstein
Born January 1, 1925 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Deceased April 7, 2016 in Plano, Texas (under the care of Texas Health Resources). Sam was the son of Russian immigrants, and a first generation American. He lettered in both football and track at Humboldt High School in St. Paul. He was drafted into U.S. Army during World War II, where he was stationed in the jungles of Burma. He was honorably discharged December 23, 1945. After his service to his country, Sam completed his college education at the University of Minnesota. He worked as an engineer in the aircraft industry for several years, first at Consolidated in San Diego, and eventually with Boeing in Wichita. For many decades, he owned and operated an automotive parts distributorship. Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth "Tootsie" Herstein his devoted spouse of nearly 65 years. He is survived by his children: Mark, Susan (Dan), Scott (Bertta); and grandchildren, Jordan, Jillian and Jacob. Donations in Sams memory can be made to Hebrew Congregation, 1850 N.
