Known for her big blue eyes and bright smile, Sandra (Sandy) J. Hoopes, passed peacefully on March 16, 2026. Created by God and born February 11, 1938, in Alliance, Ohio to Ennio and Lucretia Alfani, Sandra was one of five children: the late Gerald Alfani, the late Linda Allison, the late Michael Alfani, Charlene Yohe (Ohio), and Lucretia Hyett (Alabama). All with extended families across the east coast. Sandy and her then husband, Robert Hoopes, raised one child, Heather Hoopes-Matthews who resides in South Carolina with her husband Jim.

While Sandy’s professional career in Kansas started in banking, the Wichita State graduate launched a successful estate sale business in the 1980’s and continued working until the day of her stroke, January 19, 2022. She loved her clients, her loyal customers and the army of friends and colleagues who helped make every estate sale special. Throughout her life, Sandy enjoyed painting, helping others, hosting parties at her house and watching Hallmark movies for what seemed like all night with Lady Gaga (her cat).

Burial has already taken place at Resurrection Cemetery mausoleum on Maize Road in Wichita, Kansas. A memorial service celebrating Sandy’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sandy are welcome to Catholic Charities, 437 N. Topeka Street, Wichita, KS 67202. Arrangements through Downing & Lahey West Mortuary.

Guestbook

  1. Our condolences Heather & family
Sandy was a wonderful mother and friend we will always remember her kindness .

  2. My father passed in 2005 and soon after my mother moved into an assisted living facility. It was Sandy that ran our estate sale. She was such a God Send to our family. I was grieving the loss of my father as well as the home that I had grown up in. Sandy was extremely kind and comforting to me as we had long conversations at the house in preparation for the sale. Heather, your mom was such an amazing woman. A real “energizer bunny”! She went above and beyond for us, even showing up at my house the following Christmas with a gift for my husband and I. She even invited us to her home once for, if memory serves me a crawfish boil! We were unable to attend, but no doubt it was fun for all! I can imagine what a fun hostess she must have been. My deepest condolences to her friends and family. Her loss will surely be felt by so many whose lives she touched. Rest in peace dear Sandy.

  3. Heather and family, my love, thoughts and prayers are with you all. I go way back with Sandra in Alliance where she was born and went to school. We knew all the family and loved them all. I am saddened by her passing because no one will ever come along again with her spunk, her zest, her amazing friendship. Oh the memories I have treasured since they moved to KS and now she’s moved to Heaven…..see ya up there, Sandra. Love you…
