Sibyl Ruth Dunn

Sibyl Dunn, 103, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, died Saturday, March 8, 2025. Visitation will be from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. Graveside Service will be at 2:00 pm, Friday, March 14, 2025, at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Sibyl Ruth (Rife) Dunn was born on July 30, 1921 to Claud Houston Rife and Bertha Ora Piercy Rife in Osage Mills, Benton, AR. She was the oldest child of seven children. She attended Vaughn High School graduating in 1938. She graduated from John Brown University in Siloam Springs, AR with a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics in 1942. There she met her husband Colon Herald Dunn. After graduating, she worked for a brief time as an inspector of small parts at an airplane factory in Tulsa, OK. Sibyl and Colon were married on May 20, 1943 in Galena, KS. They lived in New Hampshire, Maryland, Arkansas, and New York. In 1959, they moved to Wichita, KS. She enjoyed gardening, yard work, square dancing, watching birds, and crafting. Sibyl also loved jigsaw puzzled and was a talented seamstress. She was a member of the Wichita State University dames. Preceded in death by her husband; three sons; one grandson; her parents; and four sisters. Survived by her daughter, Diane Taylor; five grandchildren, April Scherzer, Jim Taylor (Jessica), Crystal Block, Mike Taylor, and Tiffany Taylor; and four great-grandchild, Maximus Scherzer, Molly Scherzer, Merrick Block, Wesley Taylor; sister, Claudine Barnett; brother, Ed Rife.
