Steve Nestelroad, 78, a devoted follower of Christ, friend, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, died Sunday, August 17, 2025.
Memorial Service will be at 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Palmyra Baptist Church, 999 NW Butler Rd., Benton, KS 67017.
Steve was born and raised in Wichita, graduated from North High School, and lived his entire life in the Wichita area. Family was the most important part of Steve’s life. As a kid, he worked on cars and flew U-control model airplanes with his Dad and brother. Once a father himself, he loved coaching soccer and being a part of his boys’ lives as much as he could. He loved spending time on the original family homestead near Benton and ultimately built a home there.
Steve was employed at Associated Grocers and Hesston Business Interiors during most of his working life. After retirement, Steve started a small business, Steve’s Tractor Work, which entailed dirt work, building and correcting drainage of driveways, and mowing for rural customers. It ultimately grew to supporting Waterfront and Schellenberg Properties before he retired a second time to volunteer with various organizations.
Steve was baptized on July 19, 1998, at Palmyra Baptist Church. After that time, Steve desired to serve Christ more than anything else and volunteered at church along with time at Habitat for Humanity, American Red Cross, Samaritan’s Purse, and RVICS. In his later years, Steve suffered from severe neuropathic pain and other physical challenges; but, most importantly, he never lost his faith in Christ and served Him well. His family is happy that the pain is gone and rejoicing that he is in the arms of the Lord and with his family members that passed before him.
Preceded in death by his parents, Ora Nestelroad and Viola Nestelroad Biegajski; and brother, Roger Nestelroad.
Survived by his wife, Karen Nestelroad; sons, Jason (Jennifer) Nestelroad, Sean (Sarita) Nestelroad; stepsons, Christopher (Suzy) Allen, Chadwick Allen; stepdaughter, Jennifer (Scott) Hatchett; 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sally Nestelroad; and niece, Jill (Joel) Walker and family.
