Steven Douglas Pankaskie, 66, of Wichita, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2017, while surrounded by his family at Wesley Medical Center, after a short battle with cancer. He was born March 22, 1950, in Colby, Kansas, to the late Bernard and Erma (Kasper) Pankaskie. He married Nancy Smith on June 4, 1988. After graduating high school, Steve attended college at Wichita State University and was active in the ROTC program. From this experience, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he proudly served in the Vietnam War. After his time in the Army, he continued classes at Wichita State University. He went on to be a Mechanical Engineer for Cessna for 30 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, hunting, trips to the lake, time with his grandchildren and an ice-cold beverage. Steve will be missed by many friends and family. Survivors include his wife and best friend, Nancy Pankaskie; sister, Barb, and husband, John Moyer of Wichita; son, Tim Pankaskie, and wife, April (Weldin) of Oxford; daughters, Christina, and husband, Scott Jeffery of Mankato, Durann, and husband, Andy Douty of Wichita, Sonya, and husband, Shawn Giess of Hays, and 9 grandchildren, all whom he loved dearly. Visitation, 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, March 21; Funeral Service, 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 22, both at Downing & Lahey Mortuary West.
