Sue Longsworth

February 3, 1933 ~ September 26, 2021
Sue Longsworth passed away suddenly September 26, 2021. Sue was born in Oklahoma City, but grew up in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She graduated from Arkansas College (now Lyon College) with a degree in Biology. While at college, she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. She began her career as a high school biology teacher in Blytheville, Arkansas where she met and married a young Air Force officer, Thorne Longworth.
Sue lived a full and exciting life, traveling the globe as a US Air Force spouse. She was an intrepid explorer of new places, visiting dozens of countries throughout the world, but particularly while living on assignments in Europe and Oceana. She was active in the Officers’ Wives Club, helping relocated Air Force families adjust to new posts.
Sue was an active volunteer and shared her gifts with many organizations throughout her life including: the McConnell AFB hospital, PEO, Welcome Wagon, her church, The Boy Scouts of America, Wichita Art Museum, Wichita symphony, and American Red Cross.
Sue was fully committed to the things that were important to her, but nothing was more important to her than her husband, children, grandchildren and extended family. There was nothing she would not do or sacrifice for those that she loved. Sue never shied away from difficult or controversial issues but rather relied on her unwavering, deep moral and spiritual convictions.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Maude and J. Arthur Porter; and a sister, Virginia Kirk (Elmer). She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Thorne of Wichita; two sons, Scott of Wichita and Paul (Rebecca) of Arlington, Virginia; two grandsons, Parker and Zachary both of Arlington; two nieces, Sarah Drake of Batesville, Arkansas and Katie Holt (Robert) of Harrison, Arkansas.
Funeral Service will be at 10:00 am, Monday, October 4, 2021, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, Wichita, KS. Graveside Service will be at 10:00, Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at Kyler Cemetery, Batesville, Arkansas.

I has been a delight to be friends with Sue since 1984 when I first moved to Wichita. We enjoyed a variety of activities together via Welcome Wagon, but mainly bridge. Sue will be deeply missed by many. She was a gem of a friend!
My wife, Lindi, and I sat in the same pew at the 9:30 a.m. Service at Eastminster right next to Thorne and Sue for years until their move to Larksfield Place. It was a joy and a pleasure to get to know Thorne and Sue. They were vibrant and full of life and Lindi and I would often say to each other after the service how we both wanted to be as sharp and full of life when, and if, we reached Thorne and Sue’s age. They were an example of a loving Christ-centered couple. We have dearly missed our Sundays with Thorne and Sue but are confident we’ll all be celebrating together in Heaven. May God give you comfort and peace in the memories of Sue. Blessings, Chris and Lindi Wettig
