It is with profound respect and remembrance that we celebrate the life of Sue Raymond, who peacefully passed away on August 9, 2025. Born on March 3, 1933, in Wellington, Kansas, Sue led a life defined by her empathy, caring nature, intelligence, and purposeful actions.

Sue cherished her education and professional life, having studied Foods & Nutrition at Kansas State University and later earning her nursing degree from the University of Kansas. She dedicated many years to serving as a public-school nurse in Wichita and at Wichita State Student Health, which is a testament to her love of being a nurse and her lifelong commitment to caregiving.

On May 18, 1957, in Wellington, Kansas, Sue married the love of her life, Pat Raymond. She was a member of the University Congregational Church in Wichita, where she participated actively in the community. Sue’s hobbies and interests were a mirror to her vibrant personality; she was an enthusiastic supporter of Kansas State Athletics and an active member of the Tri Delta Sorority. An animal lover at heart, Sue also enjoyed her book and bridge clubs and cherished her times spent in Palm Desert.

Sue loved her family, her beloved pets, and her alma mater, K-State. She leaves behind a loving family who will miss her deeply: her children, Steve Raymond (his wife, RuthAnne Raymond), Sally Shelton (and husband, Greg Shelton); her grandchildren, Dylan Tillery (and his wife, Alyssa), Jenna Naylor (and her husband, Adam), Callie Raymond, Annie Raymond, Katherine Raymond; and her great-grandchildren, Reina Tillery, Jensen Tillery, and Rory Naylor.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Florence Van Deventer, RW Van Deventer; her husband, Pat Raymond; and her sisters, Betty Crary, Judy Pfadt, whose memories she treasured deeply.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sue’s memory can be made to the Kansas Humane Society (3313 N. Hillside, Wichita, KS 67219), an organization close to her heart.

Sue Raymond will always be remembered for her dedication to healthcare, and her spirit and her love of family. Her legacy of kindness and commitment to the welfare of others will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at University Congregational Church.

  1. Sally and Steve, so sorry to hear of your loss. What a lovely legacy she leaves behind. Thinking of you all.

  2. Dear Sally

I am thinking of you and your family on the loss of your mother, Sue. You took excellent care of her in her final years. Stay strong, and realize that we will see our parents in Heaven because they have accepted our Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior. It’s going to be a fabulous reunion seeing everyone!

    Love , Martha

  3. Steve,

I remember your mom being so sweet to me. Also, she gave me what I most wanted in the world when I turned 6: one of her cat Lollipop’s kittens.

    Melissa
