Sun Doan

With endless love and remembrance, we would like to inform you that Mr. Sun Doan passed away peacefully on Monday, December 13, 2021 in Wichita, KS. He was a great husband, father, and above all, a very beloved and proud grandfather. He came to Wichita after surviving war in Vietnam. In Vietnam he served in the Vietnamese military and was in battle alongside American troops. In his later years in Wichita he was involved in the Wichita Vietnamese Community and served as community president for several years. He led the effort to build the “Vietnamese American Community Memorial” by the Arkansas River near downtown Wichita in honor of those who fought for freedom in South Vietnam. He is survived by his wife Chau Nguyen; son Phong Doan; daughters Lieu, Huong, Thanh, Kelly and Khanh Doan and their families. His Memorial Service will be held at Downing & Lahey Mortuary- West Wichita. General visitation hours have been scheduled from 2:00PM to 8:00PM on Thursday, December 16, 2021; 9:00AM - 11:00AM and 5:00PM to 8:00PM on Friday, December 17, 2021. Memorial service by Wichita Vietnamese Community has been scheduled for Saturday, December 18, 2021 from 8:30AM to 10:00AM at Downing & Lahey Mortuary- West Wichita. Burial Ceremony will be held at Resurrection Cemetery, 1640 North Maize Rd, Wichita, KS 67212, on Saturday, December 18, 2021 from 11:30AM to 1:00PM. Your prayers for him on his journey ahead will be very much appreciated. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
My name is Richard, a good friend of this lovely family, u want to say that it was a pleasure to know Mr. Sun or as I often called him “Dad” he was a great man and I always enjoyed conversation with him and Mom, also very much enjoyed helping out when I could around the house and duplexes, one thing for is that Dad was always offering me a cold beer and snacks. I will always remember him as a loving father and friend, you will be missed Dad
