Wichita, KS - Our community sadly lost a pillar of education on Thursday, October 29, 2020, as Susan “Sue” Farag, a lifelong educator and administrator, died peacefully at her home, ending her nearly 5-year battle with cancer. Sue’s contributions to the lives of students and teachers across the city spanned a 40+ year career. She taught in classrooms of Wichita and Sterling schools for over 35 years before moving into administration and leadership roles as an elementary principal, reading specialist, and executive director of curriculum and staff development. She loved seeing kids and educators thrive. Sue is survived by her husband of 48 years, Ray “Doc” Farag; their three adult children, son Mike and his wife Kim, daughter, Michelle, and son Matt and his wife Taynara; three grandchildren, Selah, Justus, and Myers, and her three sisters, Nancy Myers, Vicki Justman and her husband Jim, and Jennifer Burdick and her husband Lance. She was preceded in death by her parents, Meredith and Charlene Myers. A true gift giver, she was always ready and waiting for any occasion that needed a present. Sue was an encourager and loved to leave supportive notes. She was always prepared with a joke for whoever crossed her path. Sue was a lover of reading and books, including reading aloud to classrooms full of elementary students as well as her grandkids. Ray and Sue had been active in Pathway/Westlink Church for over 35 years. Her faith carried her through so many things, and she was an inspiration of what God can do with a dedicated life. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, Nov. 6th at 10 a.m. at Pathway Church, 2001 N. Maize Rd., Wichita, KS 67212. Funeral Service will be Live Streamed through the church at https://pathwaychurchevents.online.church/. A visitation service to receive friends will be held Thursday, Nov. 5th from 5 to 7 p.m. at Downing and Lahey, 10515 W. Maple St., Wichita, KS 67209. In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions to the Sterling College Education Scholarship Fund at 125 W. Cooper Ave., Sterling, KS 67579.
My thoughts and prayers to you Michelle and your family. You mother was an inspiration to hundreds of educators in our district and her kind, empathetic character will be forever my memory of her. Our district lost an icon. God bless you all.
My thoughts and prayers for the family. Sue was such a sweet lady and always so helpful. I’ve been in the district 19 years and crossed paths with her many times.
Just a few of the wonderful memories of our childhood: We had so much fun jumping on the bed and having pillow fights. Dad would come in and tell us to quit jumping on the bed, but then would join us in our pillow fight. Once, one of the pillows I used busted open and the stuffing came out. I gathered up all the stuffing and you got a needle and thread and sewed the pillow back together so we wouldn’t get into trouble. You did such a good job and couldn’t tell at all. One day we came home from swimming and we were both hungry. The frig was about bare, but there was some baloney. I did not like baloney at all so you tried to disguise it by slathering on some ketchup. It was disgusting, but by golly you tried. When we shared a bed and was suppose to be sleeping, you would get a flashlight and read under the covers. Reading, one of your favorite things to do. I don’t remember a day that your hair wasn’t perfectly groomed. You loved the hairspray. Instead of waking up to the smell of coffee, we would wake up to the smell of hairspray. I’ll bet a weatherman would have said that our room was a fair to partly cloudy haze. So many wonderful memories, giggles, laughter and tears – forever held in my heart. You radiated a God-filled life my dearest sister and you definitely earned those Angel wings. Love and miss you forever and beyond.
My late husband, Ken, and I enjoyed our friendship with Sue and Ray through East High School. We all agreed on the importance of education, and Sue worked tirelessly to insure our public school system was the best it could be. My sincere sympathy to Ray and their family during this difficult time. Jan Dunlap
Prayers and thoughts to your family during this time. -Mark and Jennifer McNair
So much love to Ray, Mike, Kim, Selah, Justus, Myers, Michelle, Matt and Taynara. Sue was a gift to this world and her compassion will carry on through all of you.
Sue taught both of my children in 3rd grade at McCollum elementary. Recently before Covid we would visit at the YMCA. She was the best teacher, friend. So sorry for your loss.
Mrs. Farag was my kindergarten teacher in Sterling from 1976-1977. Thoughts and prayers for her family.
Doc, Gil and I are so sorry for your loss of Sue and we are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. Educators are such extraordinary people and the gifts we give and receive in this profession are countless. Sue was a gift. Thank you to you both for everything you gave to your students and colleagues.

Doc and family, while I didn’t know Sue well, I know that she was a beautiful person and a vital part of your family. I’m sure her passing will leave a huge void in your lives. You are loved and cared about hugs across the internet. Doc, if ever there is a way I can be of help I would be delighted to do so. Much love, Briana Renich

Doc and family- I only knew Sue through what Doc shared, but I knew she was an amazing woman and well loved. She will be deeply missed. May her memories always bring joy. Thinking of you and praying for comfort. Laura Kilgour
Sue always had a smile! I never heard any negativism come from her. I know she was embraced by our Lord & is now out of pain & dancing…probably w/Pastor Gene, her parents, & other beautiful souls. Welcome home gorgeous Sue. You will be greatly missed down here though. Prayers for peace for your family & friends. May we continue God’s work here as long as that is in His plan.
Sue’s smile and faith have inspired many a soul, including mine. The legacy video of Sue with those she loved is a priceless gem to be treasured. Our human hearts hurt and grieve. Our spiritual soul sings with assurance that she is with Jesus. Lord, may we each find peace, comfort, and hope between the tears of sadness and longing for one more hug and one more smile.
