Terry L. Borchers was born on May 17, 1953, in Akron, Iowa to Kenneth and Joyce Borchers. He spent the first 8 years of his childhood on a farm outside Akron. He was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church, Preston Township. The family moved off the farm to Kansas in 1961, spending time in Norton, Sylvan Grove, and Independence before settling in Sedan, Kansas in 1965. Terry was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Independence. Terry attended Jr. High and High school in Sedan, graduating in 1971. While in school, he participated in football, basketball, and baseball. He excelled in baseball. One of his memories including pitching and leading Caney's American Legion team to the state championship which they won. He received a scholarship to Crowder Jr. College in Missouri, later played at K-State, and Friends University. His love for sports started at an early age playing ball with his brothers and cousins from the time he was old enough to play. He was passionate about watching and talking about everything sports related. He especially loved watching KU basketball, Royals, Chiefs, and his grandkids participate in sports, cheer, and dance. He attended many games over the years. Terry also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Terry obtained a degree from Friends University and worked as a quality control engineer in the aircraft industry for most of his adult life. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Rodney Borchers. He is survived by his mother, Joyce Mary Ann Borchers of LeMars, Iowa; son, Christopher L. (Jamey) Borchers of Olathe, KS; daughter, Courtney (Michael) Iske of Fairway, KS; brothers, Steve (Lynne Ann) Borchers of Wichita, KS, Rickey (Jackie) Borchers of Tacoma, WA; grandchildren, Corbin, Carson, Kinley, Sebastian; and numerous nieces and nephews. May he rest in peace. Memorial service will be 3:00 pm, Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Downing & Lahey West Mortuary.
