Ulysses A. Acasio PhD, 84, retired Assistant Professor, Kansas State University, died peacefully at home, Thursday, March 2, 2023. Ulysses was born on May 31, 1938, in the Philippines, where he began his lifelong education in Agricultural Engineering. He received his master’s degree in Agricultural Engineering from the University of the Philippines and became a faculty member of the university. He then went to Kansas State University Grain Science program to earn his PhD in 1979 and became a faculty member where he was involved with the International Development Programs. Ulysses retired in 2001, where he and his wife Luz settled in Sewanee, Tennessee. This allowed him to pursue further passion projects, such as wine making, vegetable growing, chicken husbandry, painting, and to write a manual on Aquaponics. 1. I am from the Philippines. Dr. Uly Acasio was my Thesis Advisor in my undergraduate years when he came over to the Central Luzon State University as an Exchange Professor from Kansas State University. He oversaw the establishment of CLSUs Food, Feed and Grains Processing Center.
His knowledge as well as the wisdom I gained from him during those years are those knowledge and wisdom I am also sharing now to both my students and family.
One thing I dont forget was when Erwin and Penelope came over for vacation at CLSU. The lads amazed me for being very fluent in the Ilocano language given the circumstances that both were born and raised and schooled in the USA. It was then that Dr. Acasio told me that he allowed Ilocano only as their lingua franca at home.
He was a GI. Genuine Ilocano.
I am now 62 years old. I was only 21 when he was guiding through my course in Agricultural Engineering.
Thank you very much, Sir for having been part of my life in my formative years!
Find eternal peace with the Lord, Sir.
