Cody, Major General Richard N., USAF (Ret.), 78, of Annadale, VA, formerly of Wichita, died Sunday, April 29, 2007 at his residence after a lengthy illness. Committal services will be conducted with Military Honors at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 5, at Old Mission Cemetery. Born in Hutchinson, KS, he was a graduate of Wichita East High School, The U.S. Military Academy and Southern Methodist University with a masters Degree in Engineering Management. Major General Cody was a combat pilot, having flown the B-29, B-47 and B-52 aircraft. He served in numerous vice-commander and commander positions throughout his military career and served as a staff officer for the General Purpose Forces under the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Major General Codys last assignment prior to his retirement was Deputy Director of Operations and Administration of the Defense Nuclear Agency. After his retirement, he served as consultant to the Department of Defense. Surviving are: his wife, Marilyn Barnum Cody; children, Diane Cody Roberts, Richard N. Cody, Jr., David Cody and Lauren Cody Murphy; sister, Rosemary Cody Hall; brother, James R. Cody, Jr.; 11 grandchildren. Downing Lahey Mortuary East.
