Best, Varlene J., 74, retired courtesy clerk at Dillons store #34, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2009. The memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 23, Downing Lahey West. Preceded in death by daughter, Denice Best, and sister, Velma Decker. Survivors: son, Kevin Best of Australia; daughter, Cindy Gough of Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Viola Miller of Emporia, KS; brothers, Verne Bathurst (Carolyn) of Scottsdale, AZ and Verle Bathurst (Marilee) of Allen, KS. Varlene also leaves behind her extended family, the Haag clan, of Wichita. In lieu of flowers, memorial established with Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside, Wichita, KS, 67219.

We invited Varlene to our wedding back in 1999, and although she could not make it, we’ve stayed in touch – through Christmas cards and letters and the occasional e-mail.
