Rolfe, Vernie R., 91, retired Boeing engineer at Wichita, Everett, Renton, and Seattle plants, passed away at College Hill Rehabilitation Center in Wichita, Tuesday, October 4, 2005. Rosary, 7:00 P.M., Thursday, Downing Lahey Mortuary West. Service, 10:30 A.M., Friday, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Graveside service, 1:00 P.M., Saturday, St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays, KS. Vernie was born February 3, 1914 in Codell, KS. He was a 1935 graduate of Codell High School where he played sports all four years. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed fishing, archery, water skiing, and boating, and won many trophies competing at archery tournaments in Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kansas. Preceded in death by father, Charles Rolfe; mother, Cecil (Bice) Marlow; brother, Fay Rolfe; and son, Gary F. Rolfe, who died of combat injuries in the Vietnam war. Survivors: wife, Virginia “Virgie” (Meier) Rolfe; son, Ronald Rolfe, and spouse, Sue, Wichita; grandson, Donald Rolfe, Rogers, AR; granddaughter and spouse, Lori and Terry Clotfelter, Lucama, NC; great-grandson, Michael Rolfe, Centerton, AR.
