Vicki Rae (Heiser) Schommer

Vicki Rae (Heiser) Schommer, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 29, 2023. Vicki lived a life devoted to Christ and the Catholic faith and loved attending mass at Christ the King Catholic Church where she was a committed member of her church guild.
Vicki was born on January 19th, 1942, to Leo and Martha Heiser in Anthony, Kansas. She spent her early life in Anthony, where she graduated from high school in 1960. She later attended technical school to become a radiology technician, a career that she enjoyed and in which she excelled until her retirement.
She married the love of her life, Charles “Chuck” Schommer in Wichita, Kansas, in 1962 and together they built a family of six children. Sadly, Chuck passed away in 1980. Vicki never remarried, but dedicated her life to raising her young family. She was determined and resilient and navigated the challenges of being a single parent with love and grace.
Later in life, she delighted in watching over the ever-growing Schommer clan. She took particular joy in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and very much looked forward to hearing about their adventures, seeing their games, and attending their first communion services.
Vicki was predeceased by her husband, Chuck, and her sister, Kathleen Tucker. She is survived by her children Mary Ann (Chuck) Keener, JC (Terry) Schommer, Angela (Mitch) Slape, Ron Schommer, Steven (Deanna) Schommer, and Tammy (Paul) Bethel; 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; as well as by her siblings, Christine O’Day, David Heiser, Michael Heiser and Patrick Heiser.
A rosary will be held at Christ the King on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at Christ the King on Friday, May 5, 2023, at 10:30 am. Graveside service will be held at Sunnydale Cemetery, Friday, May 5, 2023, at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Christ the King Catholic School, 4501 West Maple Street, Wichita, KS 67209, or Catholic Charities, 437 North Topeka, Wichita, KS 67202, two organizations that were close to Vicki’s heart.
