Vicky A. Charters, 72, retired teacher and ESOL teaching specialist, of Wichita, KS, passed away on April 12, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Vicky was born on April 25, 1951, to Edgar and Marie (Bradbury) Bieker in Salina, KS. She grew up in Wichita and attended Catholic school until high school. She graduated from North High School. She then went on to pursue degrees in Education. She graduated from Wichita State University with Bachelor’s and Master Degrees in Education and was a certified Reading Specialist. Vicky started working for USD 259 after graduating. She taught preschool, kindergarten, ESOL, and later became an ESOL teaching specialist. Vicky retired from USD 259 after spending 27 years with the district. She was then integral in starting the kindergarten program as well as resource room and was also the volunteer coordinator at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School. Vicky finally retired for good in 2019 in order to watch her grandchildren. She never stopped giving of herself and taking care of others! Vicky made an impact in the lives of countless students and was always building relationships with her students and colleagues. She loved finding that special spark in each student and enjoyed keeping in touch with former students over the years. Students would often come back and find her, or she would see them in the community. They always remembered Mrs. Charters. Vicky married Eric Charters in 1981 and they raised their family in Wichita. They enjoyed going on family vacations, completing home improvement projects together, hosting family gatherings, and were active in their church. They celebrated 42 years of marriage together. She was a loving wife and dedicated mother who was always going above and beyond to make everyone feel special. She never missed a special event, activity, or show while daughter Kelly was growing up. She was a great champion; always encouraging her daughter and supporting her throughout the years. She loved her family, faith, holidays, cooking for everyone, was an avid reader and crafter and had a knack for home décor that cannot be duplicated. Vicky loved being a grandma and her grandchildren adored her. She was able to spend the last years of her life caring for, doting on, and spoiling her grandchildren. She wouldn’t have had it any other way. Rosary will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2024, and funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2024, both at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Vicky is preceded in death of her parents, Edgar Bieker and Marie Bieker-Fry; sister, Marietta Wix. 1. It was both a joy and a privilege to be part of the founding faculty with Vicky at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School. Vicky’s knowledge, willing spirit, and calm and caring personality will always be remembered. Vicky, may the blessings of heaven be yours for eternity.

  2. Oh my goodness, this has saddened me so much! Vicky was such a sweet, and caring person. I will always remember her amazing kindness. She cared deeply for her students and fellow co-workers. She always shared wonderful words of pride for family also. The last time I seen her was at a retirement at Cloud. Please know I share my deep condolences to all. Kelly, I know she was always very proud of you as well. This friend will remain in my heart with fondness. Heaven will have a true angel.
