Virgil G. “Doc” Weddle, 97, of Wichita, died Thursday, August 20, 2015. He was born January 20, 1918, in Smoky Hill Township, McPherson County, KS graduated from Wichitas East High School in 1936. Doc had a long time interest in aviation that began with a glider he built led to a 40 year career at Cessna Aircraft Company where he retired as Vice President General Manager of the Pawnee Aircraft Division. He met his wife of 67 years, Freda Virginia Hurd, while working at Cessna. They were married December 20, 1941. Doc was a devoted husband, father grandfather. Next to his family, he devoted his life to work at Cessna, his love of aviation flying. He was a member of the Kansas Wing of OX5 Aviation Pioneers served on the board of the Kansas Aviation Museum. Preceded in death by his parents, George Lenore Beda (Forsberg) Weddle; wife, Freda V. (Hurd); sister, Mavis (Weddle) Buck; step-brother, Mickey (Marge) Jensen. Survived by sons, Ron (Marcia) Weddle of Maize, KS, Gary (Donna) Weddle of Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren, Craig (Jennifer) Weddle of Prosper, TX, Kara (Kirk) Call of Wichita, KS, Amy (David) Hester of Hurst, TX, Marcus (Kristen) Weddle of Manchester, NH; great-grandchildren, Carson Camden Weddle, Jacob, Kellilynne, Gabriel Stewart, Emily Michael Hester Alistair, Anthea Callum Weddle; 1 niece 2 nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 26, 2015 from 6:00 P.M - 8:00 P.M. Funeral Service will be Thursday, August 27, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. both at Downing Lahey Mortuary East. Interment will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Memorials have been established with Kansas Aviation Museum, 3350 S. George Washington Blvd, Wichita, KS 67210, Alzheimers Association, 1820 E Douglas Ave, Wichita, KS 67214 or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice 313 S Market St, Wichita, KS 67202.
