Virginia Corrin

December 6, 1924 ~ August 30, 2017
Virginia Schroeder Corrin, 92, died August 30, 2017. Virginia was born on December 6, 1924 in Newton, Kansas. She graduated as valedictorian from Wichita East High School in 1942. Virginia was among a small group of women earning business degrees from Wichita University in the first half of the twentieth century and was the only business graduate in the class of 1945. She was active in the Pi Kappa Psi sorority where she made many life-long friends. On February 3, 1946, she married John Corrin, whom she had met while attending Wichita University. Virginia and John were married for 63 years, until Johns death in 2009. Also preceding Virginia in death were her father, William Schroeder, mother, Clara Penner Schroeder Nichols, step-father, H. J. Nichols, and brother, Sydney Schroeder. For several years in the 1960s and 1970s she managed the First Presbyterian Churchs Economy Corner, where she enjoyed interacting with customers and volunteers. She also lived in Russell and Colby, Kansas, Downers Grove and Chicago, Illinois, Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Raytown, Missouri before returning to Wichita. John and Virginia moved to the Towers at Kansas Masonic in 2004. Through the rest of their lives they moved through various levels of care there. The family is extremely grateful to the numerous staff members who provided them with thoughtful and compassionate care during that time. Virginia is survived by her three sons, Dwight A. Corrin (Novelene Ross), Darwin B. Corrin (Dennis LoBue, deceased) and Dean C. Corrin (Judy); three grandchildren, Ann Corrin, Julia Corrin and Parker Corrin; her brother, Philip Schroeder; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, October 27 at First Presbyterian Church (525 N. Broadway, Wichita, KS, 67214). Memorials may be made to the Kansas Masonic Employee Assistance Fund (kmh.org), the First Presbyterian Church (firstchurchwichita.org), or Planned Parenthood (plannedparenthood.org).
