Burdge, Virginia “Ginger” L. (Whitaker) Roembach, 80, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, after a 15-year battle with Parkinsons Disease. Ginger was born in Wichita, Kansas on December 5, 1930 as the middle child of Maurice E. and Faye M. (Click) Whitaker. She was a 1953 graduate of WSU (then, Wichita University) and had lifelong relationships with her sorority sisters from Alpha Tau Sigma (now, Delta Gamma). At the time, this fraternity included her future husbands, Dick (6 years) and Bob (38 years). She married Richard “Dick” Roembach in January 53. Their son, David, currently of Santa Fe, NM, was born in 1956. Dick died of leukemia in 1959, leaving her a widow with a young son. Ginger taught elementary school in Wichita and Cheney off and on from 1953 to 1971. She married Robert W. “Bob” Burdge in June 71, adding his 3 sons to the family: Brent, currently a resident of Wilmington, DE, Todd of Wichita, KS and Rob of Paola, KS. Ginger was active in the Goddard United Methodist Church, including as a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the Cheney Womens Club and the Goddard Womens Club, where she served as President. She was a loving and caring friend who kept in close contact with her many friends from her college years, as well as local friends. Even in her last months, her granddaughter would take her to the store to purchase cards of congratulations, support and encouragement to others. Ginger was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and leaves a strong Christian legacy. 2. God knew I needed another strong adult in my life, so he led me to ‘Mrs. Roembach.’ She was like a 2nd Mom to me in my growing up years…. a strong & intelligent woman who impacted my life in many ways. I don’t know if having me as her student for 4 straight years was a blessing or a curse for her (3rd,4th,5th & 6th grade)…….but it certainly was one of my greatest blessings! I went on and became a teacher, too. She inspired me to teach; to always do my best and be proud of it; to always care about & help others who are less fortunate; and to always keep learning!! I like to think that a little part of ‘Mrs. Roembach’ gets passed on to the children I have taught & will teach through the years. Definitely a life well lived!!
