Thompson, Walt H., 75, Retired Senior Project Engineer, passed away March 11, 2014. He was a kind, gentle, and good natured man and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Born May 26, 1938 in Wichita to Edward and Lois Thompson, he graduated from North High School in 1956 and Wichita University in 1962 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He married his wife of 54 years, the love of his life, in 1959. Walt worked for Cessna Aircraft for 30 years and served on the Board of Directors of Cessnas Credit Union for 17 years. Walt volunteered with many community and professional organizations and was closely affiliated with Hillside Christian Church and Trinity Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Baker Thompson; daughter, Susan Storm and her husband, John, of Monroeville, New Jersey; son, Stephen Thompson of Topeka, Kansas; son, Walt Thompson, Jr. and his wife, Tammy, of Wichita; brother, Edward Thompson of Wichita; sister, Nancy Wakley of Sedalia, MO; six grandchildren, Delanie Thompson, Tamara Thompson, Carly Storm, Josh Storm, Brinley Thompson, Walt Thompson III (Trey); many nieces and nephews. Walt was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Janet Franklin. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2258 Marigold, Wichita, KS 67204. Visitation is scheduled from 2:00 - 4:00 P.M., Sunday, March 16, 2014, at Downing Lahey East Mortuary, 6555 E. Central, Wichita, KS 67206. A memorial has been established with Trinity Presbyterian Church.
