Lewis, Walter Macy, 89, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at home. He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Ann Elliott Lewis, formerly of Collingswood, NJ; sons, John Macy (Wanda) Lewis, DDS, Walter Elliott Lewis; grandchildren, Paul Benjamin Lewis, Sarah Elizabeth Lewis, and Luke Samuel Lewis, all of Wichita, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Jennie Lewis; sister, Lois Lewis; brothers, Wayne and Gordon of Gate, OK. Macy was a birthright Quaker but later in life joined Eastminster Presbyterian Church. He grew up as a cowboy in the panhandle of Oklahoma but felt that his true calling was being an educator, serving as a science teacher for 35 years and an adjunct instructor at Friends University. He earned degrees from four Universities and continued to be a student all of his life. He loved people and never met a stranger. Macy was known to say “I would like to thank you for your smile. Every time you smile you share Gods love.” After retiring from teaching in 1990, he continued his interest in genealogy, tracing the family tree for over 40 generations. He was also a world traveler. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M., Friday, September 19, 2014, at Downing Lahey East Mortuary. Funeral Service will be at 1:30 P.M., Saturday, September 20, 2014, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 1958 N. Webb Rd., Wichita. Memorials have been established with Friends University, 2100 W. University Ave., Wichita, KS 67213; and The Outreach Foundation, 381 Riverside Dr., Ste. 110, Franklin, TN 37064.
