Johnson, Walter “Walt,” passed from this life Monday, Feb. 3, 2014 to begin eternal life with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was 79, and a member of the Church of the Resurrection, Wichita. He was born on Oct. 28, 1934 to Owen and Augusta Johnson in Moline, Illinois. Walter graduated from Alleman High School, Rock Island, IL and attended Cameron University, Lawton, OK. He was a veteran and member of the VFW Post 2153, Moline, IL. Mr. Johnson was retired from Prudential Financial after more than 25 years. He married Evelyn Gillespie on Aug. 16, 1968. They recently celebrated their 45th Anniversary. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 P.M., Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at Downing Lahey East Mortuary; Funeral Mass will be at 11 A.M., Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Church of the Resurrection. Graveside Service will be at 2 P.M., Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Resthaven Cemetery. He was preceded in death by both parents. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Johnson, of the home; a sister, Barbara Miller-Patrick of Amarillo, TX; step-son, Gary Chambers (wife, Bambi) of Strafford, MO; niece and great-nephew, Ann and Ryan Hood of Moline, IL; a number of cousins, nieces and nephews. Memorials have been established with: The Lords Diner, 520 N. Broadway St., Wichita, KS 67214; Kansas Food Bank, 1919 E. Douglas Ave., Wichita, KS 67211; American Red Cross, Midway-Kansas Chapter, 1900 E. Douglas, Wichita, KS 67214; Union Rescue Mission, 2800 N. Hillside St., Wichita, KS 67219.
