Warren H. Meyer

Warren H. Meyer, age 87, passed away Saturday morning, March 2, 2024 in hospice care following a long battle with Parkinsons. He was born May 19, 1936 in Plymouth, Wisconsin. After high school, Warren enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Darmstadt AFB, Germany where he served 4 years as a radio operator and interpreter. At the end of his 4-year commitment, Warren re-enlisted in 1958. It was in Germany that Warren met and married his first wife, Hertha Nutzinger, in 1959.Warren was transferred to Vandenburg AFB in California where he spent 6 years as an equipment technician. He was then transferred to Offutt AFB in Nebraska where he specialized as a ballistic missile launch technician. His last transfer was to McConnel AFB in Kansas where he continued as a missile launch superintendent. He retired from the Air Force as a Senior Master Staff Sergeant, with an honorable discharge in July 1974 after 21 years of service.Warren then used his college degree in accounting to monitor and audit Federal Savings and Loan Institutions across the Midwest, employed by the Federal government for the next 20 years, until his second retirement.Warren remained in Wichita, living off base, enjoying his gardening, driving his mini-cooper, taking care of his cats and dogs, and often visiting his friends on base. Eventually, Warren married Gayle McManus in 2015.Warren will be missed by his half sister, Jean Sippel of Amherst, Wisconsin, and numerous cousins and friends. Warren was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Hertha and his wife Gayle. Warren requested no formal funeral ceremony and be cremated, and his ashes interred at Veteran’s Kansas Cemetery in Winfield, Kansas with traditional burial and full military honors.The family express their thanks to Downing and Lahey Mortuary and Phoenix Health Care Hospice for their kind assistance.A memorial has been established with Skydog Sanctuary, Inc., 23823 Malibu Rd., Ste. 50 Box 357, Malibu, CA 90265.
