Wells Smith, retired 37 year Boeing engineer, 88, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2023. Wells was born March 12, 1934 to Fred and Nellie (Wakefield) Smith in Seneca Falls, New York. Preceded in death by his parents; wife Mary Jane (m. 1960-2000), and brother Walter Smith. Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Jo, his children Merry (William) January, Sandra Elliott, Curtis Smith, sister Edith Ross, Jo’s children Libby (Scott) Spiers, Allison (Mike) Tetrick, JT (Colette) Theile, grandchildren, Claire (Brad) Boeshaar, Jacob January, Sarah (Thomas) Hunt, Katie (Kurt) Heinen, Nellie Elliott, Thomas Elliott, Mary Jane Elliott, Kassy Theile, Alex Theile, Jackson Williams, Nick Smith, great grandchildren, Luke & Caroline Boeshaar, Cecilia, Monica, & Lucy Hunt, Millie & Alex Heinen, Gracelynn Theile. Wells was an engineer by profession, but was gifted in music, a guitarist with a heavenly tenor voice. A huge sports fan, he was an accomplished tennis player, bowler and pool shark, and enjoyed puzzles, jokes, puns, trivia, fun math facts, and was a prolific wood worker/furniture maker. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, Wednesday February 1; Funeral service will be at 3:00 pm, Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023, both at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.
