88, Retired Wichita Public Schools Educator, died Friday, May 13, 2016. No Services. Wilbur was born at 10:00 A.M. the morning of May 20, 1927, the same day that Charles Lindberg landed in Paris after his historic solo flight non-stop from New York. He was born on a farm north of Appleton City, MO, the only child of William Harvey Turner and Lettie Viola (Richards) Turner. His education consisted of eight years at a one room country grade school, high school in Appleton City, MO, a BS in Education and Masters in Education degrees from the University of Missouri. While in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, he met and eventually married June Beaty, a guidance counselor in the Wichita Public Schools, a relationship that lasted well over 50 years. She preceded him in death. Wilbur was a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1955, and was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church, Appleton City, MO from the age of 12. A memorial has been established with Youthville, 4505 E. 47th St. S., Wichita, KS 67210. Downing & Lahey Mortuary - East Chapel.
