William “Bill” Lee Lucas, 84, retired owner of Lucas and Associates CPA firm, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2022. Bill truly fulfilled the American Dream. Born in Virginia Appalachia, he started working at the age of 10 due to barely having basic essentials. Finishing only the 8th grade, he joined the Air Force at the age of 16 with his mother signing for him. This brought him to Kansas where he eventually obtained his GED and then attended Wichita State obtaining an accounting degree. He initially worked for the IRS and then went onto Elmer Fox & Co. He eventually left Fox to start own accounting firm, Lucas and Associates. Although successful in his business, and he also enjoyed golfing and travel, his family and grandchildren gathering became his true passion and love. He successfully raised five children and he and Debby loved hosting them and their children for Sunday dinners, holidays, and summer pool days to offer a drink and show off his vocal talents and dance moves. Through all of his amazing accomplishments, he will most be remembered as a proud Papa. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at Downing & Lahey West Mortuary. Funeral Service will be at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Riverlawn Christian Church. Preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee and Virgia Lucas. Survived by his wife, Debra Lucas; sons, Jerry Lucas, Eddy (April) Lucas, Brennen (Courtney) Lucas; daughters, Vicky (Dave) Caron, Tracy (Justin) Taton; grandchildren, Mallory (Adam) Johnson, Kaitlyn Burton, Jessica Lucas, Matthew Lucas, Brandon Lucas, Caroline Taton, Annabelle Taton, Ella Lucas, Olivia Lucas, Emily Lucas; great-grandchildren, Charlie Johnson, Maddie Johnson. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. My Uncle William stood in for my dad after he died. My daddy loved his little brother William (as his family calls him on the east coast). He was so good to my sisters and mom and me. We love him so much and will miss him with all our hearts.

  2. Rest William, until you hear at dawn, the low, clear reveille of God. Thank you for your service to this nation. U.S. Air Force.

    • I know Bill from the time he joined Elmer Fox & Company until he passed away. He was a fine man and a great friend throughout our life. Debbie, we pray that the Peace and Strength of God be with you and your family as you deal with Bill’s passing. Larry Nutt

  3. I remember that he always made me feel like I was his favorite niece. I know he made so many feel like they were his favorite. He had that rare gift. I will miss him terribly.

  4. I loved fixing my biscuits and gravy for him. He looked forward to breakfast with me and I looked forward to eating out at a nice restaurant with him and Debby, when they came to visit. I will miss our phone conversations. I can’t comprehend not being able to do this anymore. William was like a brother to me. We’d been in-laws for almost 65 years. I will miss him terribly. Amy

  5. Michael Moore, I am an old Army Buddy of Jerry and I was honor to have met a very fine Gentleman, I wound like to express my condolence to all the Family, take care, love Michael.

  6. Uncle William was the glue that held my sisters to our Dad for the 31 years since his passing. William’s hugs and visits were especially precious to us because he resembled our father in so many ways. Uncle William and Daddy had a special bond that few adult brothers have and I know my dad cherished Uncle William’s friendship above all others. My deepest sympathies and prayers for Debby, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. “Nothing is impossible with God.” Luke 1:37
