William “Bill” N. Lies, 82, Retired Boeing Materiel Senior Buyer, died Sunday, October 9, 2022.Bill graduated from Andale Rural High School in 1957 where he excelled in football, basketball, and track. He graduated from Kansas State College of Pittsburg (now known as Pittsburg State University) in 1963 with a degree in Business Administration. He served his country with pride in both the Marine and Army Reserves.After retirement he found a passion for scroll woodworking and created many beautiful pieces of art. Bill loved music, especially bluegrass. He and Pat went to many bluegrass festivals in the last 20 years and he had been a member of the Kansas Bluegrass Association.Preceded in death by his parents, Alphonse and Marie (Simon) Lies; brother-in-law, Maurice Brand; niece, Jill Leonard; nephew-in-law, Steve Sawyer; and a great-great niece.Survived by his wife, Patricia “Pat” (Ast) Lies. They would have been married 50 years this December. Also survived by his sisters, Kathleen Brand, Virginia (Jerome) Friess; brothers, Gene (Jeanette) Lies, all of Wichita, Robert (Marilyn) Lies, Dennis (Carol) Lies, Fred Lies, all of Colwich. Also survived by 20 nieces and nephews, 68 great-nieces and nephews, 40 great-great nieces and nephews, and 7 godchildren.Rosary will be at 7:00 pm, Thursday, October 13, 2022; Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, Friday, October 14, 2022, both at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Services will take place in the school gymnasium.In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with St. Thomas Aquinas Mission Outreach, 1321 N. Stratford, Wichita, KS 67206; and Dear Neighbor Ministries, 1329 S. Bluffview, Wichita, KS 67218.Services in care of Downing & Lahey Mortuary - East Chapel.
