William Lee Churchman

William Lee Churchman, Sr., passed away on December 2, 2015 in Wichita, Kansas. He was born on May 21, 1922 to Lee Churchman and Mary "Mollie" (Barber) Churchman in Parkerville, Kansas. He attended Parkerville High School and Emporia State University where he earned a BA in Education and Masters and Specialist degrees in School Administration and Curriculum Development. In June of 1942, he married Frances (Manning) Churchman. She preceded him in death after 60 years of marriage. William served with the Army Air Corps during WWII in Europe, earning several citations, one being the Distinguished Flying Cross. Upon the return from the war, he devoted 37 years to education as a teacher, principal and superintendent of schools. William and Frances had 2 sons, William Lee Churchman, Jr. (deceased) and Mike (Darlene) Churchman of Queen Valley, AZ. Other survivors include 5 grandchildren, Michelle Churchman of Wichita, Lori Howton of Newton, Aaron (Brooke) Churchman of Washougal, WA, Rebecca Churchman of Tucson, AZ, Ben (Nicci) Churchman of Los Alamos, NM and 7 great-grandchildren. Williams ashes will be interred in Parkerville Cemetery in Parkerville, Kansas. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Downing & Lahey Mortuary West.
