James "Jim" House, 79, retired accountant, passed away Monday, April 11, 2016, at Life Care Center of Wichita, after a long illness. To honor his life, a Visitation with the family present will be held 5-7 p.m., Friday, April 15 and a Memorial Service, 1 p.m., Saturday, April 16, both at Downing & Lahey Mortuary West. Jim was born July 31, 1936, in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. His family moved to Wichita when he was 5 years old. After high school, he joined the Marines serving in Japan. He was employed by the government for 23 years with the IRS and Department of Energy. When his job was downsized in 1983, he started his accounting business, retiring in 2006. An avid golfer, his Hole-in-One was on October 21, 1985, at Sim Park, #8. He enjoyed playing golf with his sons and grandsons. Many will remember his white beard and cigar. He was a 50-year member of the Scottish Rite, 32, KCCH, and a 50-year member of the Midian Shrine, Ambassador Unit. Jim was preceded in death by parents, William and Marguerite House; brother, William House, and sisters, Marguerite Tracy and Kathleen Thomas. Survivors: wife, Elizabeth; sons, Stephen (Ellen) and Russell (Joanne) of Wichita and A.J. (Beverly) of Belle Plaine; grandchildren, Jeremiah, Andrew (Monica), Natalie, Abbie, Chloe, Madeline and Madison; great-grandchildren, Issac and Violet; brother, Robert House (Mary) of Austin, TX; brother-in-law, David McCreight of Sherrard, IL, and 10 nieces and nephews. Memorials have been established with Midian Shrine Plane of Mercy, 130 N. Topeka, Wichita, KS 67202 and Wichita Junior Golf Foundation, 7529 E. 10th Circle N., Wichita, KS 67206.
