Gerald Lachlan Albert, M.D. PhD

June 30, 1965 ~ November 17, 2017
Gerald Lachlan Albert, M.D., Ph.D., beloved physician, husband and father, died unexpectedly on Friday, November 17 at the age of 52. Gerald was born on June 30, 1965 in London, England to John Michael Sydney Albert and Rosemary Lydia Albert. He grew up in Miami, Florida. Gerald had a lifetime love of science and learning. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Physics in 1990 followed by his Doctorate of Philosophy in Physics in 1993 from the University of North Texas in Denton. He was awarded his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas in 1997. He completed residency training in General Surgery and Urology at the University of Tennessee in Memphis from 1997-2003.
Gerald and Valerie Elizabeth Drake, M.D., were married on July 20, 1996 in Fredericksburg, Texas. Gerald and Valerie completed their medical training and started their family in Memphis, Tennessee, before making Wichita, Kansas their home in 2005. A dedicated and caring physician, Gerald practiced medicine with Wichita Urology Group for 12 years, where he touched the lives of many patients and was highly respected by his colleagues and staff members. He was known for his kindness, compassion, and integrity, as well as his dry sense of humor.
Gerald considered his children, Madeleine Rosemary and Gerald Lachlan, his greatest accomplishment. He was deeply involved with his childrens education. He personally taught Madeleine and Gerald in mathematics, science, and history; these were subjects he was passionate about. Madeleine and Gerald will always remember and be inspired by this special time spent with their father. Gerald was an adventurous traveler. He enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, rafting and cycling. He sought to expose his children to National and State Parks and National Historical sites. Every trip was planned to extend Madeleine and Geralds experience and knowledge.
Gerald found joy in his marriage, his children, his home, his profession, and his faith. It meant a great deal to Gerald to be part of the Drake family, in addition to the family into which he was born. He was blessed by God, and everyone who knew Gerald was blessed by his life.
Gerald was preceded in death by his mother, Rosemary Lydia Albert. He is survived by his wife, Valerie Drake-Albert, M.D., and their two children, Madeleine Rosemary Albert and Gerald Lachlan Albert, of Wichita, Kansas. Gerald is also survived by his father, John Michael Sydney Albert and his wife, Carmen, of Miami, Florida; his brother, Bruce Albert, of Corinth, Texas; and his sister, Gwendolyn Gipson and her husband, Greg, of Kennedale, Texas.
