Betty Darlene (Jaynes) Wellshear

Wellshear, Betty Darlene (Jaynes) 72, Retired Registered Nurse, died Wednesday, November 18, 2015. Preceded in death by her parents, Orin Blakeslee and Lillie Mae Jaynes. Survived by her daughter, Amy (Hutchinson) Miller (Sean) of Wichita, KS; siblings, Duane Jaynes (Cheryl) of Thayer, KS, Marilyn Featherstun (Butch Wilhelm) of Eustace, TX; grandchildren, Peyton and Caroline Miller; nephews, Todd Featherstun and Brian Jaynes; niece, Kathy Heater, and several great nieces and nephews. Betty was raised on a farm in Thayer, KS. She graduated from Thayer High School in 1961, attended Chanute Junior College, Emporia College, and graduated as a Registered Nurse from William Newton College in Winfield, KS in 1966. She began her nursing career at Neosho Memorial Regional Hospital in Chanute, KS. Betty moved to Wichita in 1970 when she married and had her only daughter, Amy. She worked in various Wichita hospitals until she returned to Thayer and Neodesha, KS in 1993 and continued her career there. In 2009, after 43 years of nursing, she retired and returned to Wichita. Betty devoted her life to caring for the sick, but said her greatest accomplishment was her daughter, Amy. Everyone who knew Betty knew of the pride & joy her two grandchildren brought to her life. The family would like to thank the many caregivers, especially Good Shepherd Hospice, who showed her much love and care during her last days. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, November 30, 2015, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. The graveside service will follow at Star Cemetery (Newark Township) in Neodesha, KS at 3:00 P.M. A memorial has been established with Good Shepherd Hospice, 7829 E. Rockhill St. #403, Wichita, KS 67206. Downing & Lahey Mortuary East.
