Aged 90 years, passed peacefully into the presence of her beloved Savior on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Regent Park in Wichita, surrounded by loved ones. Phyllis was united in marriage to Earl McCollom on Christmas Eve, 1943 in Kingman, KS. Mrs. McCollom was a lifelong homemaker and bookkeeper for the family business McCollom Motors. She was a native of Kansas and descendant of pioneering families who had immigrated from Czech Bohemia and England. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Earl; her son, James McCollom; and parents, Joseph and Clara Mattal. She was extremely adventurous throughout her life and enjoyed travel, snow skiing and flying. Together with her husband, Phyllis was a longtime private pilot and a member of Amelia Earharts womens flying club, The 99s. Always attempting to exemplify the love of her Heavenly Father, Phyllis never imposed her will, and always shall be remembered as incredibly giving, compassionate and selfless. She cherished her family and held each child and grandchild in her heart as uniquely special and sacrificially loved. Survived by her children, David (Sue) McCollom of Centennial, CO; Dan (Darlene) McCollom of Augusta, KS; Marilyn (Mike) Rudick of Valley Center, KS; Carol (Eugene) Mussat of Haysville, KS; Mark (Kay) McCollom of Augusta, KS; Jennifer (Jeff) Elliott of Wichita, KS; her brother, Joe Mattal of Nashville, KS; sister, Virginia Laverentz of Nickerson, KS; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; as well as her faithful standard poodle Zoe. Family visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm, Thursday April 21, 2016 at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary, 6555 E. Central, Wichita, KS. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, April 22, 2016 at New Spring Church (North Side Auditorium). A memorial has been established with Newspring Church, 12200 East 21st Street North, Wichita, KS 67206.
