Holmes, Glenn Ellis, 76, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2010. Glenn was a retired bank president, and later an estate and long-term care planner in Wichita. Born on April 10, 1934, the oldest of three sons born to Kelmet and Emma Holmes near Arlington, KS. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Arlington High School in 1952. Glenn attended Hutchinson Jr. College and Wichita University, earning degrees in Accounting and Finance in 1956, the same year he married Carolyn Sanders of Wichita. Following their wedding at Trinity United Methodist Church, he actively served the church in many areas until Trinity closed in 2004. His special joys included extended family get-togethers, golf trips and Wichita State sports. Survivors include Carolyn, his wife of almost 55 years; sons, Kurt (Debbie) Holmes, Bruce (Kim) Holmes and daughter, Nancy Holmes; grandchildren, Jordan Holmes, Courtney Holmes, Garrett Holmes, Jeffrey Dey, Clay Cole and Sara Cole all of Wichita; brothers, Ken (Bonnie Jo) Holmes of Wichita, Verl (Reba) Holmes of Colorado Springs, CO; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dick and Treva Sanders and Leon and Joyce Northrop. Visitation, 9:45 a.m.; Service, 10:30 a.m., both Friday, November 26, First United Methodist Church. The graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m., Lerado Cemetery in Reno County. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church Music Department, c/o Brett Valliant, 330 N. Broadway, Wichita, KS 67202. Downing Lahey Mortuary West. Visitation with the family, 9:45 a.m., Friday, November 26, First United Methodist Church. Graveside service, 2:30 p.m., Friday, November 26, Lerado Cemetery in Reno County.
