The Rev. William A. Bill Dr. Boyle

The Rev. Dr. William A. “Bill” Boyle 76, Retired Minister at Hillside Christian Church, died Friday, November 21, 2014. A native Wichitan, Dr. Boyle graduated from East High School as president of the 1955 Senior Class. He earned a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Divinity and Master of Fine Arts from Texas Christian University alongside his Master of Divinity from Brite Divinity School. He received his Doctor of Ministry Degree from Phillips University. Dr. Boyle served most of his 55 years in ministry at Hillside and Mt. Olive Christian churches in Wichita, Kansas. He was also well known in the community as “Uncle Bill” from his 17 years of creating and starring with his hand carved and painted ventriloquist dummy “Woody” in the childrens television shows “Doodle Time,” “Uncle Bill reads the Funnies” and “Turnaround” on KAKE-TV, Channel 10 from 1970 to 1987. Dr. Boyle also served on the Board of Trustees at KPTS Channel 8. Dr. Boyle will be remembered for his kindness, wisdom, artistic talent, creative genius, spiritual leadership and warm sense of humor. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, William C. and Marie Boyle. Survived by his wife of 55 years, Martha Janet “Jan” Boyle; children, Brenda Boyle (Timothy) Lawton, Sarah Elizabeth Boyle (Hank) Griffiths, Rebecca Boyle (Tony) Lewin, William D. (Stephanie) Boyle; 11 grandchildren: Nathanael, Joshua, Rachel, Joseph, Henry, Samuel, Miranda, Ava, Emma, Vivian, Beatrice; sister, Jane Tecklenburg-McClintock. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00-7:30 P.M., Friday, November 28, 2014, at Downing Lahey Mortuary East. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, November 29, 2014, at Hillside Christian Church. A memorial has been established with Hillside Christian Church, 8330 E.
