Truman Shope

Truman Shope, 85, passed away to be with Jesus on Sunday, January 12, 2014. John Truman Shope was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma on August 27, 1928. He was a graduate of Oklahoma State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and was employed by Boeing for 37 years before retiring in 1989. On November 8, 1975, he married Karen Hatfield and they have lived in Wichita since 1979 where they are active members of the West Douglas Church of Christ. Visitation with the family, 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, January 15, Downing Lahey Mortuary West. Funeral service, 10 a.m., Thursday, January 16, West Douglas Church of Christ, 1924 W. Douglas. Preceded in death by parents, Fred and Erma Shope; sisters, Ruth Herrold and June Jarboe. Survivors: wife, Karen (Hatfield) Shope; daughter, Kathryn Curry (Colin); sons, Daniel Shope (Ida), Gene Shope (Lisa Burkhart), Timothy Shope (Kim Owens); 24 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Chase and Freda Coyner; brother, Melvin Shope (Sherry); many loved nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Tim Hatfield and children.
