Carl D. Knepper, 92, retired Robinson Junior High School Industrial Arts teacher, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2016. Funeral Service, 1 p.m., Saturday, December 3, Downing & Lahey Mortuary West. Interment, 3:00 p.m., Saturday, Highland Cemetery, Winfield, KS. Carl was born April 19th, 1924 in Winfield, KS to Jess A. and Hazel (Gillis) Knepper. Carl graduated from Winfield High School in 1942. He went to Southwestern College and was drafted in July 1945 to the Army. He was assigned to Fannin boot camp in Texas and assigned to special training in I and R (intelligence and reconnaissance). He was selected for training in the Counter Intelligence Core (CIC) and sent to Ansbach Germany where he finished his term of duty in 1946. Carl then married Shirley (Schul) Knepper in 1948. They moved to Pittsburg, KS where he then earned his degree in Industrial Arts Education from Pittsburg State University. Carl received his Masters Degree in Industrial Education from Colorado State College at Greely in 1963. Carl took a job in Wichita at Robinson Junior High School until his retirement in May of 1987. Preceded in death by wife, Shirley Irene; parents, Jess and Hazel; brother, Merle; sister, Margery Quigg. Survivors: daughter, Lisa (Tracy) Norris of Wichita; granddaughter, Stephanie (Forrest) Hett; 3 great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, a memorial established with Amedysis Hospice, 250 W. Douglas, Suite 101, Wichita, Kansas 67202 (please make checks out to Amedysis Foundation).
