Eleanor Leverne Hammergren

Hammergren, Eleanor L. “Ellie” (Nelson), 87, of Wichita, passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2012. Visitation with the family, 5-7 p.m., Friday, August 10, Downing Lahey Mortuary West. Funeral Service, 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 11, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at the Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Ellie was born August 16, 1924 in St. Paul, Minnesota. There she graduated from Wilson High School and worked as a secretary for FOK. On October 14, 1950, she married Norman J. Hammergren. They moved to Wichita as newlyweds where Ellie worked at Santa Fe Trails for a few years and then became a full time homemaker. She enjoyed dancing, golfing, gardening and entertaining family and friends and was actively involved with Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and Rolling Hills Country Club Ladies Board. Ellie was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Clara Nelson, and 3 siblings. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, “Norm”; children, Roz Dahlen (Cliff) of Louisburg, Ray Hammergren (Belinda) of Stillwater, OK, Nancy Hammergren-Johnson (Bruce) of Wichita and Connie Padgett (Phil) of Wichita; sister, Alice Tepe of Eau Claire, WI; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1101 N. River Blvd., Wichita, KS 67203 and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202.
