Beverly Ann Wake

Beverly Ann Wake was born on May 5, 1942 to Alvin and Mabel Hemme in Concordia, Missouri and died on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at the age of 73 years, three months, and four days. Beverly attended St. Pauls Lutheran Parochial Grade School and Concordia High School. She participated in all local and state music contests prior to her graduation in 1960 and was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, Wichita, Kansas at the time of death. United in marriage to Jack Rodney Wake in Kansas City, Missouri on October 12, 1963, the couple lived in Topeka, Kansas City, Washington, D.C. and Wichita, Kansas. Two children were born of this union: Jack Martin Wake and Jeffrey Darren Wake. An accomplished singer, Beverly served as soloist and member of the Ascension Lutheran Church Choir for 38 years. Beverly was a Fitness Instructor both for her own company and later for over 30 years at the YMCA of Wichita. She served as their District Fitness Director for many years before retiring and returning to her favorite pursuit, Group Fitness classes at the West Branch and Northwest Branches of the YMCA, in which she instructed Yoga, Pilates, Aerobic exercises and Muscle Pump classes. She was also active in promoting the Strong Kids programs at the YMCA. Beverly was active in the classic car hobby and was Treasurer and Past President of Wichita Classic Thunderbirds, was Secretary and Event Planner for the Mid-Kansas Vintage Thunderbird Club, and at the time of her death was Executive Secretary of the Vintage Thunderbird Club International, Inc. Preceding Beverly in death were her parents, and a brother Hubert Hemme. Surviving to mourn her death are her husband Rodney Wake, sons Jack and Jeffrey, daughter-in-law Andrea Wake, and grandchildren Rachel and Jeffrey Wake all of Wichita, a sister Nadean Reith of Concordia, MO and several nieces and nephews. Public viewing will be held at Downing Lahey West from 7:00 to 9:00PM Friday, August 14, with the funeral at Ascension Lutheran Church, 842 N. Tyler, 10:30AM Saturday, August 15. It was Beverlys wish that memorials be directed to Ascension Lutheran Church Music Ministry and the Strong Kids Program at the West Branch YMCA of Wichita.
