Marilyn Joyce Schoonover Cobb, 80, died Apr. 23, 2014. She was born Mar. 10, 1934, in Lyons, to the late Clara and Earl Schoonover. Survivors: husband, William L., whom she married on June 3, 1955; children, Rev. Joe Cobb and partner, Dr. James Matthews of Roanoke, VA, and former spouse, Rev. Leigh Anne Taylor of Blacksburg, VA, Nancy and Andy Kisner of Pratt, Alan and Holly (Schoell) Cobb of Topeka, Peggy and Dr. John Knudtson of Wichita; grandchildren, Emma (Cobb) and Connor Gwin, Taylor Cobb, Ginny and JJ Matthews, Jana and Audrey Kisner, Augustus, Anna and Wyatt Cobb, Ryan, Wesley and George Knudtson; siblings, Connie Skiles of Independence, MO, Wayne and Mary Schoonover of Lyons, Darlus Schoonover of Arlington, TX. Preceded by grandson, Casey Kisner; brother, Dr. Herb Schoonover, and brother-in-law, Rev. Warren Skiles. Marilyn received her bachelors degree from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia in 1956 and her masters degree in Special Education from WSU. She taught Special Education for and retired from the Wichita Public School District. She loved to teach, volunteering her skills for both 4-H and Sunday school and spent her later years tutoring many Wichita students. Marilyn had a creative spirit and a passion for both painting and gardening. She loved Bridge and Yahtzee and spent hours with friends and loved ones enjoying both. She and Bill were members of First United Methodist Church in Wichita, and part of their Double Ring Class. They loved to travel and did so extensively after retirement. Marilyn was diagnosed with Alzheimers and lived the last 4 years of her life at Meadowlark Adult Care Home where their caring, dedicated staff treasured her gentle presence. To the very end she savored every spoonful of butter pecan ice cream. Memorial service, 11 a.m., Sat., May 17, First United Methodist Church, 330 N. Broadway with Rev. Joe Cobb and Rev.
