Martha Louise Morlan, was born to Howard and Theo Girton Shrauner on September 1, 1927, at the home of her grandmother in Protection, Kansas. She passed away August 11, 2015 at the Harry Hynes Hospice Unit at Via Christi Hospital. Martha graduated from Protection High School. She married Leon Morlan soon after her graduation and his return from active service in WWII. They both attended and graduated from Fort Hays State College. Martha taught elementary school at Peterson Elementary School for 27 years. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church serving as deacon, a Stephen Minister, on the Fine Arts Council, the Presbyterian Womens Group as a board member, a Circle Leader, on the Pastoral Care Committee, Mature Through Christ Study Group, an Economy Corner volunteer and President and on the Junior Kindergarten Board as President. Martha was active in many other organizations, including 2 book clubs, a movie club, 20th Century Club as a board member, Thursday Afternoon Music Club, Audubon Society, Prairie Quilt Guild on many committees and the Board, a Square Dancing Club and the Peterson Retired Teachers Association. Martha loved flowers, birds, especially owls, and Teddy Bears. She and Leon spent many happy months in their motor home in Creede, Colorado. Martha is survived by her brother, Ralph, and his wife, Neoma, of Colorado, 3 brothers-in-law, 1 sister-in-law, many nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2015, at 2 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Wichita, KS. Graveside services and inurnment will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2015, at the cemetery in Protection, KS. Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church or the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice at Via Christi Hospital. Downing Lahey Mortuary West.
