Johansen, Emma Katherine, 94, passed away Monday, August 12, 2013. She was born December 12, 1918, at Beaver Crossing, Nebraska, the middle child of eight children, to Albert L. and Katherine (Franzen) Johnsen. She graduated from Cordova, NE, high school, class of 1937. She worked at the Nebraska Book Company, Lincoln, NE, until she was united in marriage to Norman E. Johansen on July 5, 1941. They made their home in Wichita, Kansas, where their two daughters were born. They moved to Metairie, LA, in 1962, to Seattle, WA, in 1966, to Nagoya, Japan, in 1979, and returned to Wichita in 1982. Emma enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, and quilting and every Christmas made batch after batch of “pepper nuts” for her family and friends. Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Norman; her parents; sisters, Reola Lerager (Folmer), Eldene Moore (Richard); brothers, John (Esther), Richard (Neva), Burdette (Mary), and infant brother Martin; a niece and nephew. She is survived by her daughters, Janice Serinese (Joseph), and Lois Johansen; sister, Dolores Swoboda; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be at 1:30 P.M., Friday, August 16, 2013, at Downing Lahey East Mortuary. Memorials have been established with the American Heart Association, 8630 E. 32nd Ct. N., Wichita, KS 67226; and Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2258 N. Marigold Ln., Wichita, KS 67204.
