Marita (Mansyte`) Flanigan

Marita (Mansyte`) Flanigan, 80, passed away after a short battle with brain cancer on Tuesday, April 25, 2017. Rosary, 4 p.m., Sunday, April 30; Funeral Mass, 11 a.m., Monday, May 1, both at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 145 S. Millwood in Wichita. Marita was born in Klapeida, Lithuania, on August 4, 1936, immigrated to America in April of 1957 and was very proud to become a naturalized citizen in 1962. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Jim Flanigan; sons, Patrick Flanigan (Patrice), Michael Flanigan (Gina); daughters, Aldona Carney (Pat), Teresa Kippenberger (Kerry) and Alisa Franco (Ernesto); 23 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She also leaves her loving sisters-in-law, Peggy Bowen and Vernie Bloch. Marita was preceded in death by her mother, father, brother and sister. She worked for 17 years as a clerk at the Kansas Supreme Court. Prior to that, she helped run the family business while raising 5 rambunctious children. She was highly competitive in all she did, but was particularly keen on playing volleyball, card games and fishing at her beloved cabin on the Ninnescah River.
