Fretz, Evelyn Anita (Sheppard), 88, passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2011. Memorial service will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 24 at Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church. Evelyn was a charter member of ACAP, a member of Friendship Force of Kansas and the National Association of Watch Clock Collectors, was Executive Secretary for Project Concern, Walk for Mankind and was a member of Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church and the Red Hat Society. Preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, J. Millard “Jake” Fretz, parents, Howard and Artie (Gates) Sheppard, son, Mike Karlowski, brother, Bud Sheppard and sister, Elaine Webb. Survivors: step-children, David Fretz (Laurel) of Shrewsbury, VT and Donna Voth (Stanley) of Topeka, KS; grandchildren, Krista Voth, Scott French and Ely Fretz; special friend, Kent Yockey; several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church, 655 S. Lorraine, Wichita, KS, 67211. Downing Lahey Mortuary East.

  1. I was saddened to learn of Evelyn’s passing. Please accept my heart felt sympathy. She will be missed. I will remember her in my thoughts and prayers.

  3. I had known Evelyn for many years. A long time ago she and I belonged to what was called CPA Wives. Later we joined Friendship Force and there she was! She was a great lady and liked by everyone. We are so sorry for your loss.

  4. i was her great grand daughter and i had never met her to where i could remember her but i would talk to her on the phone and my grandparents would send her pictures of me and my siblings i was hoping one day to meet her but i always love her and always will

I did not have the pleasure of knowing Ev, but from all that I have been told, she was an intelligent, delightful, and generous woman who lived a rich life in a beautiful home and who loved her cat above all else.   8. Evelyn was one sharp lady. She was a treasured family friend and next-door-neighbor for over 30 years. She was a great friend to our mom, who lived next door. They were very supportive of each other after both their husbands passed and I will be forever grateful to her. I will miss her.
