Viola McCafferty
August 26, 1923 ~ December 3, 2018
Viola McCafferty, born in Claflin, Ks. on Aug 26th, 1923, to Robert and Emma Hickel passed peacefully to our Lord on Dec. 3, 2018. The fifth of 10 children in her family, Viola lived a full life of 95 years. Viola married Robert McCafferty in 1945 in Wichita, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 1993. She raised her family of two sons, Patrick and Michael, and worked at the School of the Magdalen, Kapaun High School, Catholic Social Service, Catholic Charities for Refugees and the Catholic Care Center. She was also active in the Wichita CYO program. She retired at age 65 and then volunteered at St Joseph Hospital with her sister Gertrude and Sister Emma in Wichita, Ks.. She is survived by two sisters, Patty Degner and Jan Harnish, sons Patrick (Kathy) and Mike McCafferty (Betsy), grandchildren Melissa Teagarden, Erin Sellars, Tristan McCafferty, Nancy Pine and great grandchildren Caitlyn, Meghan, Amy, Laura, Lincoln and Ethan. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers (Wally, Vernon, Elmer, Bobby) and 3 sisters(Gertrude, Katherine, Maxine). She leaves us many memories and a Truth and saying, “Jesus, I trust in you”. We thank the many family, friends, care-workers, priests and nuns in her life, especially Rev R.K Larson and Sister Emma. Also thanks to the family at Star Living ( Faith and Gilbert and staff, Amanda, Rachael, Tracy, Theresa, Salome, and the rest of the wonderful staff) and VNA Hospice. Services are Monday, December 10th, 2018 at All Saints Parish Catholic Church. 3205 E Grand St. Wichita, Ks. 67218. Rosary at 10am, Mass at 10:30am, Cemetery service at 11:30am and lunch/reception at noon. Thank you for your prayers.
