Behrendt, Thomas Franklin, 93, farmer, died Monday, May 2, 2005. Memorial service, 2:00 P.M., Thursday, Presbyterian Manor Chapel. Graveside service, 1:00 P.M. MDST, Friday in Syracuse, KS. Tom proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II including service on Guadalcanal before returning to spend his life farming in Hamilton County. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge and the First Presbyterian Church of Syracuse. Known for his innovative mind, he was a friend and mentor to all who made his acquaintance. His care for those he called family knew no bounds. Preceded in death by son, Mack. Survivors: wife, Iola; son and daughter-in-law, John and Theresa Behrendt of New York, NY; grandchildren, Todd Behrendt of Santa Monica, CA and Gretchen Komnik of Vienna, VA; great-grandchildren, Jessica Behrendt and Kiley Komnik; cousin, Gyla Roberson and her husband, Gene, of Wichita; nephews, Wayne Hephner and Joe Carrithers of Wichita, and many more who consider themselves to be family. Memorials established with First Presbyterian Church, 302 E. Avenue F, Syracuse, KS 67878. He departed with polished boots, a tilt of his Stetson, and a twinkle in his eye.
