William R. Mix

William R. Mix, 81, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at his home on January 23, 2017. Bill was born to Raymond and Sophia Mix in Buffalo, New York and following high school joined the United States Army. Over the next four years he was stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia and in Giessen, Germany. At the end of his time in the service, Bill and an army friend decided to go to school at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Neither of them had ever been in Oklahoma before. It was at OSU in an art class that Bill met Carolyn who was to be his wife for almost fifty-nine years and the mother of his four children. Bill would spend the rest of his life in Oklahoma City and Wichita working in the newspaper business in both cities. Bill loved classical music, playing the piano, traveling and fishing with his son, Kent, and hunting with good friends. Bill is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his son, Kent of Wichita; daughter, Jane and her husband, Jeff Zimmerman of Seattle; daughter, Katharine of Wichita; and daughter, Joanna and her husband, Paul Ramondetta of Wichita; and adored grandchildren, Graham Zimmerman of Bend, Oregon, and Greer Elizabeth Zimmerman of Portland, Oregon. Memorial Service is at 2:00 P.M., Monday, January 30, 2017, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.
