Purple Heart recipient. Killed in action at Pearl Harbor on the USS Oklahoma. Fireman First Class, U.S. Navy. Deceased family includes his parents, Harvey and Hester Pirtle; brother, Willard; sister Barbara Baylor. Survived by 1 nephew, 3 nieces. Finally laid to rest with his family. Graveside Service will full military honors will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 17, 2018, at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.

I am sorry you did not get to grow up with your uncle. I know he was a TRUE soldier, man and American. Thank you for his bravery at such a young age. God Bless you!

I remember Moms story. She said Grandmother knew that morning of Dec. 7 that Gerald would not be coming home. Before the news on the radio. I am glad they are together again. I wish I could have attended.
