Joyce Benson

Joyce Benson 83, owner of Joyce Benson Leasing and manager for Sure Check Brokerage, died Friday, May 4, 2018. Joyces previous occupations included that of bookkeeper, sales representative for church directories and leasing agent for Anita Frey Property Management. She attended all 12 years of public school in Maize, graduating in 1954. When her children were young, she was active in the Goddard School District. Joyce was an accomplished cook. Her nephew Jeff said when he thinks of Joyce, he remembers her delicious "Swedish Meatballs". Everyone in the family has a favorite dish that Joyce made. Her sister, Carol, remembers her Black Forest Cake. Joyce enjoyed gardening and did trial tests on roses for Jackson & Perkins. She loved playing bridge and played with the same group for over 25 years. She especially loved and enjoyed her grandchildren, Joe and Sami Benson. Joyce was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church, attended the Kononia Sunday School Class, and served as a class officer and as a member on several boards and councils. A visitation with the family will be from 6-8 p.m., Monday, May 7, at Downing & Lahey Mortuary West. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 8 at First United Methodist Church. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Mary LaVerne and Walter Oberg, and son, Scott Benson. Survivors: son, Robert Benson of Wichita; daughter, Cynda Benson of Savannah, GA; siblings, Helen Smith, Dale Oberg, Carol Collins all of Wichita, Jean (Terry) Holovach of Salina; grandchildren, Joseph and Samantha Benson both of Wichita.
