Michel Sauerwein

Sauerwein, Michel “Mike,” 90, founder of Sauerwein Construction Company, Inc., died peacefully in his home surrounded by his family, on May 5, 2015. Michel was born in Meurich, Germany July 3, 1924, to Nickolaus Maria Sauerwein. He is survived by his wife, Magdalena Anna (Lutz) Sauerwein; their sons and daughter-in-laws, Rudolf and Doris Sauerwein and Frank and Beverly Sauerwein, all of Wichita. Michels grandchildren have always been a big part of his life, Frank and Margarete Sauerwein of Germany; Erika Sauerwein of Denver, Colorado; Daniel Sauerwein of Lawrence, Kansas; Leah and Hank Krueger of Edmund, Oklahoma; Michelle and Jarrett Duncan of Chicago, Illinois; Nadine and Matthew Long of Wichita; Nicole Sauerwein of Wichita. Brother, Bernard Sauerwein and sister, Sr. Maria Pacis (Irma Sauerwein) Ursuline Sisters. Five great-grandchildren, Hannah and Greta Sauerwein of Germany, Addyson and Hudson Krueger of Edmond, Oklahoma; Evelyn Long of Wichita. Michel is preceded in death by his parents and four siblings all of Germany. He married Magdalena Lutz on May 6, 1950, in Kirf, Germany. They immigrated to Kansas in 1954 with their young sons. Michel was by trade a Master Cabinet Maker in Germany and found work as a carpenter in Wichita in 1955, working his way up to a jobsite superintendent and eventually founding Sauerwein Construction in 1977. He worked closely with both sons for many years and slowly retired in the mid 1990s. Michel was a past President and longtime member of the German American Association, Serra Club, Knights of Columbus and Associated General Contractors of Kansas. He was an avid sports fan of his boys and grandchildrens sporting activities. Rosary will be at All Saints Catholic Church, 3715 E. Harry, Thursday, May 7, 2015, at 7:00 PM. Funeral Services are Friday at All Saints Catholic Church at 10:00 AM. Memorials have been established with All Saints Catholic Church, 3205 E.
