Maddox, Mary L. Kaelson (Shook), 89, died Thursday, August 26, 2010. The family will receive friends in the church parlor at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 28, with the Funeral service following at 3:00 p.m., at St. Johns Episcopal Church, 402 N. Topeka, Wichita, KS, 67201. Mary was born April 14, 1921 in Wichita and lived her entire life here. She graduated from East High School and attended Wichita State University, where she was a member of Alpha Tau Sigma Sorority and Wichita State University Alumni Association. She was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church. Mary worked with the Kaelson family business, as a cashier at Bucks Dry Goods Co., and as a secretary at Beech Aircraft Co and, most importantly was a homemaker. Survived by son, Dr. Thomas L. Shook and daughter-in-law, Lynne of Harvard, MA; daughter, Jane L. Shook Shirley and son-in-law, Kenneth W. Shirley of Topeka, KS; step-son, Gary Maddox and daughter-in-law, Marilyn of Maryville, MO; daughter-in-law Jo, (William Maddox, deceased) of Edmund, OK. Also surviving are grandchildren, Jim and Lydia Shook, and Paul, Dan, Matt and Tom Shirley; step-grandchildren, Kim, Dana and Jay Maddox and Nicole, Marc and Danielle Maddox; sister, Lois Woolley of Lexington, KY; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 15 nieces and nephews and 26 great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, Edgar L. Shook, son, James E. “Jim” Shook, husband, James M. Maddox; step-son, William S. Maddox, parents, Ruth and Paul A. Kaelson, brothers, Dr. Paul Kaelson and Kenneth Kaelson and sisters, Virginia Burrell and Donna Little. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with St. Johns Episcopal Church, 402 N. Topeka, Wichita, KS, 67201. Downing Lahey Mortuary East. The family will receive friends in the church parlor at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 28, with the Funeral service following at 3:00 p.m., at St. Johns Episcopal Church, 402 N. Topeka, Wichita, KS, 67201.
